Trump Unveils Joining Virtual Talks with Zelensky
(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump is set to participate in an online conference alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and numerous European leaders, according to a White House representative who spoke to a news agency on Tuesday.
The confirmation came with a request for anonymity, just one day after German Chancellor Friedrich Merz disclosed that he had extended invitations to Trump, Zelenskyy, and several European figures for the summit.
This gathering is scheduled merely two days before Trump is slated to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska.
Stefan Kornelius, the spokesperson for the German government, stated that the virtual discussions on Wednesday will center on exploring "further options to exert pressure on Russia" and preparing for "possible peace negotiations and related questions regarding territorial claims and security guarantees."
These topics suggest a strong focus on both strategic and diplomatic planning amid ongoing conflict.
The summit will include various formats of dialogue, bringing together leaders from Germany, Finland, France, Italy, Poland, the UK, and Ukraine.
High-ranking officials such as the president of the European Commission, the head of the European Council, the NATO secretary general, and the US vice president are also anticipated to take part in these high-stakes conversations.
Earlier the same day, the White House downplayed the prospects for significant outcomes from the upcoming Trump-Putin meeting, referring to it as a "listening exercise" for the US president.
According to spokesperson Karoline Leavitt, the summit—set to take place in Anchorage, the largest city in Alaska, on Friday—will give Trump the opportunity to establish the "goal" of gaining "a better understanding of how we can end this war."
